The University of Minnesota Medical Center, Fairview has opened the area’s first Lupus and Sjogren’s Clinic. Experts from University of Minnesota Physicians will provide comprehensive care for any patient with lupus, Sjogren’s, antiphospholipid and overlap syndromes. For the first time, patients with autoimmune diseases will have access to multidisciplinary acute and preventative healthcare services at a single location.  

The clinic is directed by Barbara Segal, M.D. and Mehrnaz Hojjati, M.D. and staffed by University of Minnesota rheumatologists as well as subspecialists in nephrology, dermatology, cardiology, ophthalmology, psychiatry, social work, and pain management.  The clinic’s triage system allows specialists to coordinate care provided in multiple disciplines and insure same-day appointments with multiple specialty clinics.

“In addition to a multidisciplinary care approach, we work closely with basic scientists on the latest in vascular biology and autoimmunity genetics research to help patients,” Hojjati said. “We will also help connect patients to investigational clinical trials if appropriate.”
