Post-gastric Bypass Hypoglycemia

Post-gastric bypass hypoglycemia is a condition that some patients have
experienced after having gastric bypass surgery for weight loss. The term
hypoglycemia refers to low blood sugar. The symptoms associated with
post-gastric bypass hypoglycemia can range from very subtle to severe and
can be quite similar to the symptoms experienced with Dumping Syndrome
(occurring after consuming foods or liquids with high sugar or high
carbohydrates contents).

Symptoms of Post-gastric Bypass Hypoglycemia
- Light Headedness
- Confusion
- Loss of Consciousness
- Diaphoresis (sweating)
- Disorientation
- Shakiness
- Fatigue
- Weakness

The symptoms of post-gastric bypass hypoglycemia occur or are generally
experienced within 2 hours of eating a meal. The symptoms are not associated
with exercise or activity. If you think you are experiencing the symptoms
mentioned above please contact Kate in Dr. Kellogg's office at 612-273-2607
for more information. The University of Minnesota is one of only a few
centers in the world investigating this condition. We can provide testing
for this disorder and we will offer interventions that can control symptoms
in patients with post-gastric bypass hypoglycemia.
